Sket Dance first impressions

The story of a volunteer club that exists to help people, populated my misfits, and thought of poorly by the rest of the school. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. I’m really not sure why this concept is so popular, yet it just keeps on popping up. At least Sket Dance is simple to boil down, whether you like it or not depends on whether you like the type of humor in Sket Dance or not.

It reminds me a lot of Beezlebub, as the humor is based on overreaction, with screaming and flailing. It is better then Beezlebub though, and I will assure everyone of that. They don’t do one thing and assume it’s funny over, but rather throw in different situations. There’s also a serious element that’s not half bad.

Thank God 30-sai no Hoken Taiiku taught me about sex.

I’ve always been clueless about how sexual intercourse works. Thank god for this anime!

Also, always use protection.

Maria Holic Alive First Impression

The fact that I’m doing first impressions of this mean that *le gasp* I’ve actually completed the first season. Yes, yes I have, Maria Holic and I go way back. It was actually the third series I ever blogged, and the series I blogged when I had mono. If you care to dig around Borderline Hikkomori, you probably will find those old posts.

For anyone who liked Maria Holic enough to come back for round two–and we’re probably few and far inbetween, here we go? Will Kanako ever get a glimpse of female flesh she yearns for? Will they writers ever figure out that constant nosebleeds aren’t funny? Or how to make Kanako less annoying? The answer is no, no, and probably not, but if you’re like me, you’re here for season two because there were parts you enjoyed about the show and characters you liked, and want to see more of. It’s no masterpiece, but it’s a wonderful guilty pleasure anime.

If you’re new to the world of Maria Holic, this comment from Scamp’s blog sums it all up very well. (Btw, if you don’t read his blog, you should. At this point, Scamp has developed a wonderful community of commenters from whom I love reading.)

Nailed it on the head

It’s a directionless shallow comedy that once in a while makes an insightful point. Far from Shaft’s best, but they’ll have another offering this season, and anyway, Shinbo does need a wind down from Madoka (although I’m very anxious to see those final episodes). Maria Holic is, in my opinion, pretty much the lowest Shaft sinks, going for fanservice, easy laughs and little depth. I do like it in a guilty pleasure way, but I also know what it is.

Everyday Life Series First Impression

My boyfriend asked me previously if I’d yet watched the first episode of Everyday Life. Well, now I finally have.

Me too.

Everyday Life is really simple to boil down. It’s a KyoAni slice of life with absurd comedy elements–I like what Scamp said, a moe Cromartie High School. Either you’ll really enjoy it, or you’ll be wholly unimpressed by it. I’m a fan of absurd humor, so I really enjoyed it.

Dog Days First Impressions

Okay, I want to establish something. I know this show is crap with no potential. Shallow absurd characters, even more absurd plot, and most absurd of all setting. Yet, I came out of it having vastly enjoyed it. I wasn’t quite sure why that was, and then it clicked that it was so bad and ridiculous that is was awesome. To me, it was even better then Rio: Rainbowgate from last season in this area. I understand that this isn’t a good thing for the world of anime, but I was in such a good mood after I watched it. It was so dumb and ridiculous, it was quite fun for me.

I couldn't take any of this seriously. I mean the beginning was suppose to be serious, but I couldn't take such goofy looking animal people seriously.

Everyday Life 00 Impression

I’m not sure what the story behind this episode is, whether it’s an episode released as a bundle with the manga, or is suppose to serve as a promo for the upcoming series. Either way, it was a nice way to get a bit of a taste for what the upcoming series might hold.

I'm sure this is how my cats feel.

Shows I’m Not Doing First Impressions Of

Remember, there’s some anime airing in February, so we may not be finished yet!

Cardfight!! Vanguard- The only cardgame based anime I plan to watch is one if ever released based on euchre.

I Don’t Like You At Big Brother-If I were to watch this, it would be in secret without anyone knowing. But I don’t really dig incest and I really don’t want to watch this. An anime with an opening scene where the brother wonders whether or not to grope his sister? I can’t help but wonder, did Japan find out America really dislikes incest, and thus the current incest trend?

Also, I will include the review from the Tentacle Consensual Sex Monster because I like it. And it further motivates me not to watch it.

Mitsudomoe 2-Didn’t watch the first season, I don’t like to watch sequels without seeing the first one.

Kimi Ni Todoke second season- I didn’t like the first season enough to watch the second season while it’s airing. If it wraps up the series, or at least has Sawako and Kazehaya become a couple, I might go back and watch it, but not right now.

Starry Sky-Sometimes you know something is crap. Not even Psgels did a first impression of it.

Wandering Son-I am watching this. However, I find that when talking about the topic this anime addressed, being transgendered, is brings out the worse in people. I feel like if I don’t praise this work and say it’s perfect, I’m going to flamed and lectured about not understanding the plight of the transexuals. The better an anime is in my opinion, the more I nitpick it, and things I let slide in lesser animes, I won’t let slide in greater ones. I would have complaints. The first episode…touched me on a personal level, and the way it touched me is so pure and wonderful that I refuse to let anyone of the internet ruin it for me.

However, I would like to direct people to this post over at Kitsune’s Thoughts

Wolverine-I don’t care if it’s suppose to be better then Ironman! I’m still pissed about the tranwreck that was Ironman!

Fractale First Impressions

First off, I’ll just be blunt and say, this is a very strange first episode. I think this probably will be a strange show. I’m hoping I’ll enjoy it, I did enjoy the first episode, but it was indeed strange. The ending of the episode had me wondering if the whole thing had jumped the shark, and then wondering if a series could jump the shark in the first episode.

I love the opening, and how it's full of fractals.

Finally Freezing First Impressions

The only thing that I can think about Freezing is it’s an anime meant to be watched with one hand down your pants. There is a stab at a serious plot but it feels half-hearted compared to work put into the gore and the fanservice—the two are often combined. Within the first episode, there’s the nipple shot when the ‘Untouchable Queen’ is putting on armor. And then she gets a look on her face as if she’s aroused right before she turns and kills a bunch of other girls.

Nothing turns her on like murder. Except guys who think they're her brother.

Yeah…
