Merry Christmas to all my readers around the world. I hope you all enjoy the festivities!

From the title, I guess what this post is about is obvious. There are always attempts at Mahou Shoujo, or Magical Girl anime. The genre itself is so old and tired that what comes out is typically very stale and cliche, and at best, it’s watchable. When there’s been nothing being the shallow cliche, and nothing worth talking about, the genre is thought it be dead. The last time the genre was thought to be dead was 2004, when Magical Lyrical Nanoha was released, and proceeded to prove people wrong. After that, Mahou Shoujo experienced a revival. Annnnnd…died down down. Mentions of Mahou Shoujo being dead was brought up again around 2009/2010.
Meanwhile, there’s been a Mahou Shoujo franchise that had been trucking along. It hadn’t done anything that noteworthy besides entertaining the small children of Japan for years, and didn’t have that much of a fan following in the blogsphere. Furthermore, sequel series are suppose to get worse, and this franchise seemed to be supporting this idea.
I don’t think anyone saw it coming.
Returning to Heartcatch Precure where a lot has happened since my last post on the series. Although the episode that I’ve returned to, episode 15, was once again the episodic stories. Still, it was a pretty darn good one. I think Psgels put it’s best in one of his earlier episodic posts about the series, when have you seen a Magical Girl series kick this much butt?
After having their butts handed to them on a platter, the Precure return to their fantastic episodic episodes life. I mean, where can you go wrong with a nunchuck monster?
So first off, I have to ask my readers to be patient with me for the next three weeks. I have AP tests coming up. I also have been suffering from migraines that seem to be caused by allergies. So my output…is a little slow. As I live in one of the top 5 cities for pollen amounts in the United States, it’s actually pretty bad.
That said. This episode returned to the main story of Heartcatch Precure. I don’t want to call the non-story episodes filler, as they’ve done so much to develop the characters but this episode focuses on the story while others have been individual tales about characters.
First, I forgot to do my favorite opening and closing themes, so I’ll do them real quick.
Onto Part 2: Genre and Misfit Awards. Inspired by The Null Set, these awards cover genres and well, random things. Without further to do.
In this episode, we return to Erika’s story and the tension between her and her sister.
I seriously would have never guessed that he was a she. Don’t worry Tsubomi, you can always be a lesbian! Given that the president likes cute things, I doubt she’d object to this idea.
This was an interesting episode. While it was the typical helping the kid in trouble, that is the standard for not only this series, but most magical girl series, it took on a different air. It dropped the lighthearted tone and went for a serious mood, although it still had funny bits.
