12 Days of Christmas Day 11: What Do You Mean Girls Like Sex?

When talking about this, I’m not talking about hentai, as I don’t watch hentai. On top of that, girls who enjoyed having sex, and wasn’t save their pure self for their first one true love have always existed in anime. They’ve just been portrayed in a bad light, and more often then not villains, or at least obstacles to the main characters one true love.

In 2010, there have been female protagonists with an interest in sex just for the pleasure of having sex. Not that they’ve been really portrayed that positively, and rather, are suppose to be protagonist we laugh at because of their crazy antics. Still, I think having girls that like sex as protagonist is a move in the right direction—especially considering the sexism present in Japan.

B Gata H Kei Review

Summery: Yamada is a sex obsessed high school girl who wishes to have one hundred fuck buddies. Problem is, she’s a virgin. When she sets her eyes on who she believes will be conquest number one, Kosuda, she finds a relationship growing between them.

Episode Count: 12

Why I Picked It Up: The first episode was hilarious, and I honestly liked the premise it.

Why I Finished It: I honestly really enjoyed this show. Rarely does anything in the media honestly acknowledge the sex drive of women, so having a girl obsessed with sex being the main focus of the show was a nice change of pace. Add this to the character of Yamada, a character who dreams big, but is completely inept at successfully executing, well, anything in the realm of dating. Put her next to Kosuda, a kind but clueless young man, that while he is indeed attracted to Yamada, he doesn’t want go too far and offend. This leads to an interesting combo. Using these guys, the producers add twists on the usual slice of life clichés, giving them a rather unusual twist. The end result is a 12 episode long with a romantic comedy.

This romantic comedy comes with a cute relationship developing between Kosuda and Yamada. While this anime does indeed fall into the pitfalls of not fully developing their relationship like most anime, it develops it further then most anime, and well, it’s adorable.

Not that the anime is perfect. The production values are lacking. Aside from Yamada and Kosuda, the rest of the cast while quirky (I liked Misato), is paper thin. The side characters of Angel Beats had more depth. It dragged a little in the middle.

In the end, this anime it just pure dirty fun, even though with the use of many censor images a lot is left to the imagination, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn’t perfect, but I doubt I’ll see enough romantic comedy anime that’ll make me laugh this much in a long time. Sorry, even Arakawa Under the Bridge, also airing this season, didn’t make me laugh as much as this.

Who Would I Recommend This To: I actually made my boyfriend watch this.

My rating: 3/5-I liked it.

Boring seems to be quite an insult

If you want to insult someone in anime, the best way seems to be to call them boring.

The anti-tsundere message of B Gata H Kei

Although B Gata H Kei has sparked a surprising amount of discussion, the one thing that no one has seemed to talk about is the fact that Yamada tries to poke fun at the idea of a tsundere.

B Gata H Kei 05: Valentine’s Day Episode

While I am fully doped up on cold medicine, I really enjoyed our Valentine’s Day story. I find myself judging a series a lot on the Valentine’s Day premise, a completely clichéd storyline, but if the episode still manages to draw me in somehow, chances are, it’s probably a series that’s worth watching.

B Gata H Kei 04: Yes! Yes! Yes!

B Gata H Kei has definitely at this point abandoned the humor to go more the path of a shoujo story. While there are still funny moments, they happen less frequently, and are no longer focus of the story.

That's what I want from a guy!

B Gata H Kei 03: Still Going Strong

This show is still managing to be hilarious. I thought by now, it’ll start to get weak, but no, it’s still going strong.

B Gata H Kei episode 2: I make a cameo?!?

There’s a character that looks just like me.

I recently cut my hair shorter, and wear a headband, otherwise, this is dead on.

That moment of weirdness aside, this episode isn’t quite as over the top as the last, but still managed to really amuse me. I like this show. I really do. It appeals to my sense of humor.

B Gata H Kei episode 1 impressions

Honestly? I was really amused by this and laughed quite a bit. It reminds me of a quote from Glee, “Here’s a dirty little secret about girls. We think about sex just as much as guys do.” It’s actually kinda refreshing to have the topic of a women’s sexuality presented so bluntly, honestly, and hilariously.
