A little late getting this out, but it’s been a hectic week. I had a con last weekend, something this weekend, that bug inbetween, and then my mom was sick. I’m just tired and worn out. On the blogging scene, we’re all slowly moving on, but not forgetting the events in Japan. Madoka is officially on-hold. And the Spring Season is coming, complete will allergies. So what did this week bring us?

Future Anime

Crunchyroll leaks it list for the Spring Season–why they want to affiliate themselves with Lotte’s Toy is anyone’s guess.

Animeyume Can’t Decide What to Watch This Spring

Bakemonogateri prequel to get movie. In truth, movie will be released in five parts to account for SHAFT’s schedule. I kid about the second half.

In response to Saimoe is Saimecha. I do like mecha, but I’m not a huge enough fangirl to really know mecha that well…Tachikoma beats them all though.

Shameless Shipping Day 4 KanadexOtonashi

So I’m continuing this year the tradition that started at the blog Borderline Hikkomori, and I continued doing over here last year. Except I’m only doing 7 days this as opposed to 14, as, uh, well if you don’t know what last week was like for me by now, I’m not going to spell it out for you. As always, if you’re comment is to tell me how much you hate my ship, I reserve the right to mock you, and will probably block you from my blog.

Okay. I lied. I’m not doing two posts today. The drive back home actually took longer then the drive to, and I’m pooped. And it turns out my counting is off. V-Day is Monday. But the way I previously had it spaced out, I would finish on Sunday. So oops. Only one tomorrow as well.

Today is a case of response to the previous couple, and while they’re not quite as exciting, I don’t feel right having one and not the other. Let’s have what turns into the main couple of Angel Beats! Otonashi and Kanade.

Shameless Shipping Day 3 Yui x Hinata

So I’m continuing this year the tradition that started at the blog Borderline Hikkomori, and I continued doing over here last year. Except I’m only doing 7 days this as opposed to 14, as, uh, well if you don’t know what last week was like for me by now, I’m not going to spell it out for you. As always, if you’re comment is to tell me how much you hate my ship, I reserve the right to mock you, and will probably also block you from my blog.

I have no idea if these two count as a canon couple or not, but either way, they’re really really cute. Even though I’m not a big fan of Yui on he own, I’m a sucker for the pair.

If the Rumors About a Second Season of Angel Beats is True…

then there better be more GirlsDeMo. Another CD worth of music would be nice. And if it isn’t asking too much, the story of how they formed would be really really cool.

What am I talking about? Well if what was posted in the recent Megumi magazine is true, Angel Beats will receive a second season. As it already reached the point of no return in the first season, the second season will be a prequel. That means no Yui, no Otonashi, and no good guy Kanade. But it also may develop the minor characters more.

Really, all I want to hope from Angel Beats at this point is more GirlsDeMo. I love their music.

12 Days of Christmas Day 2: Angel Beats Theme

Stupid WordPress, thanks for not posting. Anyway Day 2 brings up to my favorite theme song of 2010, from Angel Beats! I doubt this will be the last time Angel Beats makes this list either, although I myself don’t know right now.

Angel Beats! was without a doubt a trainwreck of an anime, but it was an awesome trainwreck. One thing that I really liked about it was the opening theme. In the song alone, rather then doing the usual method of going with typical over-hyper J-Pop, it felt liked the actually tried with the Angel Beats! theme song to make it fit into the theme of the show. The song itself is a little more mellow, and downright beautiful. More then that, the song touches me on an emotional level–describing when music alone touches you is a difficult thing to put into description but this song does.

On top of that, the great song is paired off with some beautiful animation. The OP starts with Kanade playing on the piano, and then moves on to introduce all the main characters in the show. Each opening animation also included a montage from the upcoming episode that made it seem more intense and awesome then it really was. It ends with the sun setting, and Yuri staring up at the stars, while Kande continues to play the piano, and then it fades out.

Angel Beats! OP reached a level of quality that was a real treat rarely seen in OP.

In defense of the ending of Angel Beats

Old news is old, but I haven’t moved on from Angel Beats quite yet. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking as well about the ending, especially with the criticism I’ve read of it. The strongest that sticks in my mind is Mecha Guignol’s, and since reading that, I’ve been trying to find a defense for an ending, an explanation for this randomly slapped on scene that didn’t quite fit.

Angel Beats Review

Summery: Otonashi wakes up in a strange world without any memories and a girl next to him holding a gun. When he’s ask what’s going on, she tells him that he’s dead, and introduces him to the strange sort of purgatory that they’re stuck it. She then invites him to join her in her battle against god. With nothing to lose, he teams up with the girl to figure out what’s going on and to hopefully regain his memories.

Why I Picked It Up: Angel Beats was one of the most hyped shows of the spring season and had an absolutely stunning first episode.

Why I Finished It: I’m going to combine the positives and negatives here as Angel Beats is a very complicated show to describe. Angel Beats is a show that should have been twice the length it was, and the creators tried to stuff too much in their storyline. As a result, the pacing was off, the storyline suffered, and the series was given a disjointed and chaotic feel. Yet, the creators still tried to do something with the anime, and their enthusiasm for the series came through, and I have to give them credit for that.

Oddly enough, while I doubt the disjointed chaotic feeling was their intent, it ended up fitting the series very well, so who it harmed the series in some ways, it ended up working to the series benefit in others.

Furthermore, I really liked the characters. Even if they weren’t the best developed, they were still incredibly likable, and one could sympathize with their plight of being stuck in a confusing world while they still had this inner anger. A lot of work was put into making the minor characters stand out with small and silly but noticeable quirks. The way the relationships grew between the characters, while not perfect, was enjoyable as well. In the end, the characters are what I liked best about the series, and what kept me coming back every week.

Who Would I Recommend This To: Anyone getting tired of the same old same old in anime should give this a shot. It’s not perfect, but it tries, and in the end, I really liked this.

My rating: 4/5- I Loved This

Side Note: Why I gave this a 10 on MAL is I’m starting to give series a 10 that I want to keep in mind should I decide to compile a ‘Top Anime’ list so they stick out among my watched anime.

Goodbye Angel Beats, and thanks for not only a great series, but some great fan art!

Angel Beats 13: The End

Angels Beats begins on a disappointing note. In all the other side characters, such as TK, Ooyama, etc, that I’d come to loved have at this point already vanished. Without even so much as a send-off as even the last people in the episode got. I mean really? They deserved better. But apparently, only Otonashi, Hinata, Naoi, Yuri, and Tachibana get a proper send-off. Heck, all those minor characters were around longer then Naoi. Dammit! They could have easily been added into the graduation ceremony, and by all means, should have been. Gah, I am so angry about this.
