So I’m continuing this year the tradition that started at the blog Borderline Hikkomori, and I continued doing over here last year. Except I’m only doing 7 days this as opposed to 14, as, uh, well if you don’t know what last week was like for me by now, I’m not going to spell it out for you. As always, if you’re comment is to tell me how much you hate my ship, I reserve the right to mock you, and will probably block you from my blog.
I had two ships I wanted to do from Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, and it was really hard to choose one. In the end though, I went with the trolling witches. It’s hard not to ship these two. Whether or not they’re a couple is ambiguous, but between what they say to each other, and the official art out there, it’s near impossible in my opinion not to ship them.
These two. Oh goodness. When they first appear on the screen, they say they’re sworn enemies. While Bern seems to aid Battler, Lambda seems to aid Beatrice, and the two of them end up as opponents dueling it out in the fifth game. Except it turns out the two are at least friends, and maybe more, having a sleepover with each other after the fourth game. And so goes the wild ride with this pair of trolling witches. It’s a very topsy turvy ride.
The two of them are often flirting or taunting each other, or up to ridiculous antics while muddling the mystery and making things more confusing. After all, Bern for the most part is emotion less except for a cruel streak, which fills her with great joy. Lambda most of the time has a childish happy-go-lucky facade. And they’re both game masters, can, and will fuck up the current theory you worked so hard to piece together and thought was infallible. But whether they’re lovers or not is hard to say. Lambda definitely has feelings Bern. But who knows if Bern returns her feelings?
Though with lines from Bern like, “If this is some new joke of Lambda’s, I’ll cover her whole body with honey using my tongue as a reward. And then, I’ll stick parasol chocolates into her eyes and tell her to never do it again.” It’s impossible to think something isn’t going on. But maybe she’s just trolling us all. Most likely, she is. And they say things like this to each other all the time.
As the visual novel unfolds, we learn just how much Lamda cares for Bern. It’s very moving. Her relationship with Bern is an attempt to try to humanize Bern. And then Lambda is willing to go to further lengths to try to redeem Bern…which you should really play the visual novel to find out. It’s incredible. All for someone who may not even love her back. There is a reason Lambda is my favorite character in Umineko.
