12 Days of Christmas: Day 6 ShKanonTrice Theory

Over the past year, the ShKanonTrice Theory in Umineko No Naku Koro Ni has really gained momentum as many people have attempted to figure out the mystery at Rokkenjima. As someone who’s more into the fantasy and drama of Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, when it comes to the mystery, I’m just along for the ride. It’s been interesting to watch this theory develop. At first, it seemed while workable, well, farfetched. But as more of the mystery has been revealed, it actually seems Ryukishi07 is dropping hints for this to be a possibility, and now it’s rare case when a discussion of Umineko No Naku Koro Ni happens, and the ShKanonTrice theory doesn’t get mentioned.

Although, there is one important question that hasn’t been answered. Is this indeed the answer to the mystery, or is it a red herring with Ryukishi07 trolling everyone?

ShKanonTrice, for the very few who don’t know, is the idea that Shannon actually has multiple personalities. There is her Shannon personality, her Kanon personality, and then a Beatrice personality that does the murdering. Not without help, of course, as she doesn’t work alone. This allows for Shannon and Kanon to have the red truth apply to them in a different way. After all. they’re completely different people in the same body. As the Visual Novels have progressed, this seems even more likely, as it’s revealed Kinzo is sick as hell, and possible of messing of her to end up like this. And of course, what this says about Jessica’s relationship with Kanon…well, it’s no more awkward then a lot of things that happen in this Visual Novel.

The odd thing about all this, is Ryukishi07 has stated he will not openly give away the answers to the mysteries. So it may never be confirmed or denied if ShKanonTrice is true. If it is confirmed or denied either way, fandom will go crazy about it. Myself, I find the theory interesting, and if it’s true, well it’s an interesting way to solve the puzzle. If not, I’m not attached enough to the theory to be disappointed. As it is, ShKanonTrice has added some spice and excitement to the mystery this year.
